The following pages outline the specific techniques necessary in using the GiGi Honee System on each part of the body. It will become your step-by-step guide. But first there are six very basic steps you must learn - regardless of the area of the body from which hair is to be removed. These steps are the key to the GiGi Honee System, and are used without exception.
Determine the direction in which the hair is growing. Apply GiGi Honee only in that same direction.
Holding the spatula at a 45 degree angle, always apply the GiGi Honee in a THIN, transparent layer. Do not allow the Honee to cover any area not being treated at the moment.
Apply 2/3 of the epilating strip over the Honeed area - rub immediately in the same direction as that in which hair is growing. Leave 1/3 of the strip free to be used in maintaining a firm grip for fast pulling action.
Be sure to always pull the skin taut before peeling the epilating strip and unwanted hair away.
Using a quick, smooth motion, pull the epilating strip away from the skin as quickly and as close to the skin as possible. Always pull in the opposite direction to the hair growth.
On sensitive areas, immediately apply FIRM pressure to the area with the cushions of your fingers and your palms.
Be sure to follow each step carefully. Practice them before you begin to use the GiGi Honee System on your clients. Read through the "Do's and Don'ts" which follow, and be sure you understand them thoroughly before you begin epilating. Along with an understanding of the six basic steps, the "Do's and Don'ts" will provide you with all the necessary background to practice epilation using the GiGi Honee System successfully.
Do
Learn, remember and always use the 6 basic steps of hair removal with GiGi Honee.
Practice speed in application, in smoothing on the epilating strips and in applying pressure with the hand. Keep at it and practice - you will become an expert!
Use Antiseptic Lotion, Pre-Hon and Benzokal whenever they're called for - they can make all the difference in comfort and satisfaction.
Keep the GiGi Honee Warmer heating all day - it's thermostatically controlled.
Always hold the skin as taut as possible before pulling away unwanted hair with the epilating strips.
Use Anesthetic Numbing Spray to desensitize a particularly tender area of skin, or if you're with a client who tells you that he or she is very sensitive.
Dust underarms and the bikini (bathing suit) line lightly with Pre-Epilating Dusting Powder before applying GiGi Honee if perspiration is present.
Use Wax Off on any area on which you've spread the Honee in error. The hair will not be removed when you use the epilating strip.
Give your client a non-prescription antacid tablet (Tums, Rolaids, etc.) if he or she drinks a lot of coffee or has a high level of stomach acidity.
A tepid, moist tea bag applied to overly sensitive areas will soothe discomfort instantly.
When dripping your spatula into the Honee, clean the underside of the spatula by running it over the rim three times, then rock it sideways to break off any threads of Honee.
Advise your clients to AVOID exposure to direct sunlight immediately before and after a GiGi Honee treatment.
Warn your clients not to bathe in hot water directly before and after a GiGi Honee treatment. (Lukewarm water is acceptable.)
Recommend that your clients return regularly for treatments.
Wear the proper attire. A uniform can be very reassuring to a nervous client, good shoes can be vital to your disposition and health.
Always dry Pre-Hon thoroughly before application of the Honee. If you fail to do so, the Honee will not adhere to desired area.
Immediately apply FIRM pressure to sensitive areas after treatment.
Lift ingrown hairs with tweezers so they can be removed easily.
Suggest to patrons that they use a loofa sponge to prevent ingrown hairs.
Remove excess Honee from the GiGi Honee Warmer with a clean cloth while warmer is on "low".
When removing the epilating strip from the Honeed area, be sure to keep your elbow and wrist straight - extend your arm to the full length in the pulling motion.
Don't
Do not use products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) such as Malic, Lactic, Tartaric, Glycolic and Citric Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) such as Salicyclic Acid at least 24 hours prior to AND after receiving a Honee treatment. These may cause sensitivity or irritation to the treated areas.
Never apply GiGi Honee over moles, warts, pimples, rashes, irritations, sunburns, peeling, broken skin or varicose veins.
Treatments should not be performed more often than once every ten days on a client (on the same area). It usually takes that long for hair to grow to a length of 1/8" which is necessary for effective removal.
Do not use GiGi Honee on anyone who has phlebitis or diabetes, without consent of physician.
Never apply GiGi Honee to eyelids, the inside of the nose, or the inside of ears!
Don't permit patron to scratch area. Because the treatment increases blood circulation, the area might itch. Scratching or intense rubbing will irritate the skin.
Remember not to leave the GiGi Honee Warmer on when cleaning it with Sure Clean. Allow it to cool slightly.
When removing hair from the breast area never apply GiGi Honee to the nipples!
Avoid using GiGi Honee on patrons who have a history of cysts or boils. And certainly never to patrons with active Herpes virus (cold sores).
Don't forget the 6 basic steps of hair removal using the GiGi Honee System. They are as important as the product itself.
It is important to remember that all parts of the face are vary sensitive. Therefore cleanliness is of the utmost necessity. Pre-Hon is always the first step towards removing natural oils and makeup. After hair removal, firm pressure must be applied to the area without delay. This will reduce the flow of blood to the area and minimize discomfort and redness.
Your Patron should either lying flat on her back or with her head firmly supported in a shampoo chair for hair removal on the face. It is strongly advised that you stand behind your patron's head whenever removing facial hair.
NOTE: If skin is extremely sensitive, apply ice directly after Honee-ing.
Removal of hair in the underarm area using the GiGi Honee system is most desirable. When using GiGi Honee, the regrowth is soft and unstubbled. After successive hair removal appointments, hair will begin to thin out and be less profuse.
Unlike other parts of the body and face, hair grows in several directions under the arms. Shaving is a major cause of additional hair growth patterns in this area.
Patron should be lying down for this process -- with her arm raised, and her hand behind her neck. Her free hand should be in a position to gently hold her breast so that the skin under her arm is taut. It is again strongly advised that you stand behind her throughout this procedure.
Unwanted hair on the body itself can be easily removed using GiGi Honee. The areas requiring attention are the back and shoulders, the chest, the stomach area around the navel and above the pubic hair, and the nape of the neck.
As these areas are often inaccessible to your patron for do-it-yourself hair removal, and since shaving is a very unsuccessful alternative because of unsightly stubble, GiGi Honee is a perfect choice for hair removal on the torso.
Hair removal from the legs does not necessarily cover the entire leg area. It can be, and often is, divided into the following areas: the bikini line, thighs, calves and feet. Depending upon the patron's activities, her needs for hair removal on the legs will vary from season to season. Often the summer brings on the most requests for total hair removal on the leg area. The epilating strips must be pulled straight back against the growth pattern of the hair so that hair will not be broken off at the skin line.
The bikini line is a special service which should be discussed with the patron before removing hair from the legs. It involves hair removal high into the crotch, and bikini wearers will find it an absolute necessity. Make sure that your patron understands that hair removal from the upper leg does not necessarily include the bikini line. Obviously, the bikini line is an additional hair removal service which may require an optional charge.
