Why do you need to replace this part?

As time goes by the "spring" in the hinge will become weak and will not hold the blade tight against the lever. Which will allow the Lever to slip out of the slot in the blade. This will destroy the Lever. It is recommended you change the Lever (item # 000077008572763) when changing the Hinge.
